Whio, Our Blue Duck

Monday 16 September 2019

What do you know about whio, the blue duck endemic to New Zealand?

Whio specialist, Jason Malham, will be at Richmond Library on Thursday 19 September from 12.00pm-1.00pm to reveal the secret life of one of New Zealand’s most special birds.

Jason Malham has worked in ecology all his adult life and is currently running a whio study in two Kahurangi National Park river catchments.

Jason says, “I’ve had a very fortunate and interesting career, working in lots of amazing places from Kahurangi and the Marlborough Sounds, to South Westland, Fiordland, Whenua Hou/Codfish Island, the Auckland Islands and Mauritius. During this time I’ve worked on all sorts of species - introduced wasps, Great Spotted Kiwi, Kaka, Moreporks, Rifleman, Gibsons Wandering Albatross, Echo Parakeets (in Mauritius) and of course whio.”

Come along to Jason’s talk and find out more. It’s free and everyone is welcome.
