Wacky Kids Author Visits Town
Wednesday 16 November 2016
Snakes alive! Kiwi kids' favourite author Justin D'Ath is coming to Tasman full of tall tales and wicked adventures.
The popular children's author will be reading from his books and sharing ideas and insights about his writing and real-life experiences.
Justin has won numerous awards for both his children's and adult's fiction and his books have been published in 18 countries. He says he doesn't plan what his characters are up to, and laughs out loud at the unexpected things they say and do. "I simply invent a character, usually between ten and fourteen years old, put him or her in an unusual (or scary!) situation and start speaking in her or his voice. For me it is a natural process. Part of me doesn't seem to have grown up."
He says his main message to children is to enjoy reading. "I want children to become lost in my books, to experience the magic of the written word, to see that reading is not a chore, it's one of the most exciting, imaginative and enjoyable things they can do."
Justin's talk is at Takaka Library on Wednesday 16th November, 1-2pm and at Motueka Library Thursday 17th November, 4-5pm.
