Robbie Robilliard Talks About Her New Book Hard Country
Wednesday 27 August 2014
If you're looking for inspiration and entertainment, Takaka Library is hosting an event that will fit the bill.
Robbie Robilliard, well-known Golden Bay identity, is launching her latest book Hard Country at the library at 1.00pm on Monday 8 September.
It was the Robilliard's dream to have their own farm. In 1957 they found a property, described as 'one-hell-of-a run-down place.'
It was 1500 acres of mountainous, rocky, infertile land beyond the infamous Takaka Hill. Despite the odds and many character building years later this is where the Robilliards remain to this day.
As Robbie says, "living in such isolation behind the great Takaka Hill has forced many of us who live here to do things, achieve things that we may never have done in a more conventional area."
Hard Country is Robbie's story of those years and the colourful characters who make up her community.
