Pikihuia Awards for Māori Writers

Wednesday 20 March 2013

Māori writers of novels, short stories and film scripts have just one month left to get their entries into the Pikihuia Awards for Māori Writers competition.

Initiated by Huia Publishers and the Māori Literature Trust to encourage diversity in writing and innovation, these popular awards recognise outstanding work by Māori writers. These include the best short story in Māori or English, the best novel extract in English and the best short film script in English.

As well as cash prizes of $2000 each, winners and selected finalists will also be published in Huia Short Stories 10 – the contemporary fiction series published by Huia. Younger scribes are also welcome with a secondary school division awarding a first prize of $500.

So brush off that dusty manuscript or get typing on your keyboard. Entry forms and full details are available online.

Entries close on 15 April 2013.
