Nelson At War Short Story Competition Launches

Saturday 7 June 2014

What would life have been like here in the Nelson-Tasman region with so many New Zealanders fighting overseas in the First World War? What was it like to be left behind? Or to try and come to terms with the aftermath when loved ones returned?

As part of our World War One centenary commemorations, Tasman District Libraries are joining with Nelson Public Libraries and Page & Blackmore Booksellers to hold a short story competition - Nelson At War.

Local writers aged over 18 are invited to write a fiction short story set in the Nelson region during or immediately after, and relating to, the First World War.

There is no minimum word count, but stories must be no longer than 1500 words. Stories can be submitted online via the library's website or dropped off at any of Tasman's four libraries.

The competition closes on Friday 30 August 2014 and winners will be announced on Thursday 16 October.

So boot up that laptop or sharpen your pencil and start drafting your short story today.
