Author Christine Hunt Daniell at Richmond Library
Friday 2 August 2013
Richmond Library is hosting visiting author, Christine Hunt Daniell for a talk on her latest book, Just an Orange for Christmas: stories from the Wairarapa.
Originally from the Nelson region, Christine now lives in the Wairarapa. Her book tells the stories of “old-timers” from that region.
“Christine’s talk is great timing for us,” says Promotions Assistant, Tania Norfolk. “We’re celebrating Family History Month during August at Richmond Library, so we’re thrilled Christine could be part of our programme of events.”
Christine spent three years in Europe, working in isolated rural communities. While absorbing the distinct flavour and spirit of each culture, she became determined to capture New Zealand’s equivalent. She has produced three books: Something In The Hills, Speaking A Silence and I’m Ninety Five - Any Objection?
Just an Orange for Christmas continues in this vein. Old timer Stan says in the book, “I’m amazed you keep wanting to come back and get information from an ordinary old fellow like me.”
Christine will be at Richmond Library on Monday 26 August, 10.30 am - 12.00 noon. For more information on the talk or other Family History Month events phone 543 8500.
