A Very Busy Month at the Library

Thursday 18 January 2018

Were you one of the 1,692 people who came to Richmond Library on Wednesday 3 January?

If you were, you'll know how lively the library can be over the Christmas and New Year period. It's a great time of the year to visit the library and borrow books, magazines and audio books to take away on holiday.

25,352 people visited Richmond Library in December 2017, the highest number of visitors ever for a December. Richmond Library staff answered 549 customer queries (in person, online, and over the phone) that month.

Takaka, Motueka and Murchison Libraries have been bustling as well. Murchison Library issued 500% more DVDs and 388% more large print books than the previous December (2016). Takaka Memorial Library issued almost 7,000 items for the month. And in Motueka 6,000 items were issued by customers using the self-checkout kiosk.

Check-ins for the Wild About Reading programme are also well underway. 307 children are taking part in the programme across the district, with an almost even number of boys and girls. As part of Wild About Reading, children have brought in and emailed some great photos, posters and postcards. Check-ins finish on Friday 26 January 2018.
