Syria Before and After 2011

Wednesday 20 July 2016

Do you understand the current situation in Syria and its neighbouring countries?

In an effort to increase understanding Richmond Library is hosting Firooz Zadeh who will speak at the library on Syria Before and After 2011. Firooz will also address the worldwide refugee crisis caused by the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria.

Firooz, award-winning author of “The Power and The Peril of Oil”, brings a wealth of knowledge to his subject. As an American Kiwi born and raised in Iran he presents a unique view of the culture of the Middle East and the complexity of the region.

“While there is a lot of media coverage of the thousands of refugees making their way to Europe and the ongoing conflict in Syria, it can be difficult to understand the geopolitics of this region of the world”, says Collections Librarian Ruth Lawley. “Firooz brings a different perspective to this complex issue. I’m sure this will be an enlightening talk.”

Firooz will be at Richmond Library on Tuesday 26 July 5.30-6.30pm. Bookings are not required but numbers are limited to 50 people.
