Sit, Stay, Listen!

Tuesday 26 April 2016

The school holidays have arrived and the Richmond, Motueka and Takaka libraries are busy with the 'April Animalia' school holiday programme. Children across the district have been enjoying animal inspired story-times, scavenger hunts, music and crafts.

Tails were wagging at Richmond Library on Tuesday when four lucky children had the pleasure of reading to an attentive audience of the four legged variety -  Quanda the dog, who loves listening to children read.

Reading to dogs is fun and it also helps children practice their reading and build their confidence in a non-threatening and relaxed way, no criticism, only a wagging tail.

Quanda is a specially trained therapeutic dog who is safe around children and is used to being out and about in the community. Assisted by her handler Renee Lang, Quanda can also help children learn how to be safe around dogs.

If your child wants to read to Quanda, she'll be visiting the Richmond Library again on Thursday 28 April 2016 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm. There's no need to book, just come along and read.
