Ondaatje Wins Golden Man Booker Prize

Michael Ondaatje's novel The English Patient has won the first ever Golden Man Booker Prize.

This special one-off award to celebrate the 50th anniversary in 2018 of the Man Booker Prize crowns the best work of fiction from the last five decades of the prize. Five judges selected the top 5 novels and then the public voted.

The novels that made the short list were Lincoln in the Bardo, Wolf Hall, The English Patient, Moon Tiger and In a Free State.

The English Patient originally won the Booker in 1992. It was made into a movie in 1996 starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliet Bonoche. The movie went on to win 9 Academy Awards.
