Confessions and A Fight for Justice

Thursday 16 June 2016

Michael Bennett, author of In Dark Places, writer/director of the award winning documentary “The Confessions of Prisoner T” and former Motueka resident will be visiting two Tasman libraries in June to talk about the Teina Pora case.

Michael will be at Richmond Library at 4.00pm and at Motueka Library at 6.30pm on Friday 24 June.

Teina Pora, a 17-year-old car thief, was wrongly convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Susan Burdett.

Tim McKinnel, an ex-cop turned private investigator, discovered the long forgotten case 18 years later, saw an injustice had been done and set out to win Teina’s freedom.

Mr Bennett will show excerpts from the police interviews that lead to Teina’s arrest and wrongful convictions, answer questions and sign books.

Focussing on the moving human stories behind the case, In Dark Places released in March 2016, tells the full story for the first time.

Motueka Branch Librarian says, "It’s a privilege to have Michael Bennett, a multi award winning author, speaking at our libraries."
